Otherwise titled "MGC September 2007". WHOO! And you thought Broadway was fat. This month's Monthly Gargoyles Contest topic was "Illustrate a Nursery Rhyme", and the rhyme I picked was obviously Jack Sprat. So I'm killing two birds with one stone here. I made in entry for this month's MGC while at the same time knocking down oneof the topics on the 100 list I was having trouble with (up till now, I had nothing in mind for the "food" topic).
Anyway, the two gargoyles I used here are my gargoyle versions of Cantus and Madam Heap. A pair of clan leaders dining together. Cantus is the leader of Red's clan (which also includes Gobo, Mokey, and Wembley), and Madam Heap is the leader of Boober's clan (which includes, of course, Jigen).
I figure both clans would have various characters from the Fraggle Rock series (including Large Marvin, The Storyteller, a dog beast named Sprocket, etc.) And for the record, no they're not married. If they were, they wouldn't be leading two seperate clans, now would they? They might've thought about it at one point. They (and their clans) have shared a long history together. The clans don't live together, but they live close enough to each other to be able to visit each other often. That is until Madam Heap decided to move her clan to New Liberty. Not the wisest decision she'd ever made.
Despite that mistake, she's actually the wisest of her clan. Everyone calls her Madam Heap due to her incredible size. Her real name is Marjory, but only Cantus knows that.
Cantus is really wise in his own right (even though he's a major hippie). His clan looks to him for wisdom just as Madam Heap's clan looks to her. He's a retired musician from a band called "Cantus and the Minstrels", and he aways encourages anyone who wants to pursue a career in music. He helped Gobo form his band, "Fraggle Rock", and even pulled some strings to help them get a record deal to get them started. Even after retiring, Cantus never stopped playing music. He carries his strange and unique pipe that he plays everywhere he goes, and everyone always stops to hear him play it. There have been many rumors that he also uses it to smoke whatever it is he's on, but it's never been confirmed.
Madam Heap was incredibly hard to put into gargoyle form, and I'm not completely satisfied with her final design. But then again, there's not much you can do with a character who is really just a big pile of trash. I tried to make her hair kinda similar to the way the Trash Heap looked. The top part of her hair is based on the banana that always sat ontop of the heap, and the rest of her hair is like all the leaves and stuff. The trash heap had a constant and very pronounced frown on her face, so I gave Madam Heap a tusky underbite to give her that natural frown.
I like the picture overall. I really like how my ham came out. And I've decided that forks are a pain in the butt to draw and everybody should all eat with chopsticks from now on. lol
So yeah, here it is. Hope you like it. And I hope those at the MGC will like it.
Addendum: This is also my first time succeeding in drawing a really fat character. And this is ALSO my first time successfully drawing an underbite. So those are a few good accomplishments right here.
Now that is very cool Madam Heap as a Gargoyle. Her hair design is very clever, it does mimic the banana peel and leaves from the original Marjory well as does her skin tone. And of course gotta love Cantus as a Garg too.

I think he's one of my best characters as far as drawing goes.
